We just got back from a big sailing trip out to New York and heard about a farm called Harbes. It was recommended as being kid-friendly and thought it was the perfect start to our day with the kids before hitting a vineyard or two. We thought we might stop in for a little bit and ended up being there for over 3 hours - and we could have stayed even longer. It was so fun, clean and a great experience with a well-thought out design from the farm stand, winery, animals and games.
We purchased tickets before hand - especially recommended for the weekends. We got there around lunch and grabbed some apple cider donuts to snack on while the kids ran around and the adults had some wine at the on-site winery. We passed by a really adorable candle-making booth (so wish we had time for that!) and headed onto some fun climbing structures that the kids couldn’t resist.
From here we got our tickets scanned, grabbed our wristbands and OF COURSE some animal food. We loved the animal area with tons of shade and got to see goats, sheep, pigs and more. We even got to see a baby bunny that a handler was bringing in for care. The kids were in love.
I also can’t mention enough how incredibly clean the whole place felt - there are a lot of signage and areas to wash your hands as well as plenty of hand sanitizer.
We got to go and check out a giant bouncy area, two other really cool jungle gyms, an “apple shooting” range (with tennis balls) used to “hit the bad bugs so they don’t eat our crops!” And this was all just the beginning.
There was a piglet race throughout the day and it was so engaging for families and kids - really entertaining. We loved the ball games on the far side as well as the bag races down a fun slide. We grabbed some lunch and had to go back for some buttered corn on the cob that was absolutely delish. We somehow missed it on the menu but then saw some employees grabbing some for their own lunch and knew we had to give it a try. It did NOT disappoint.
Before heading out we ran around the mini house/play area and all jumped on a 4-person bike to ride around a track together as a family. It was SO much fun and ridiculously comical.
We can’t wait to go back and only wish we were around to explore the fun we are sure is down the road for this fall on the farm. Sunflower tours on a farm wagon (covered for sun protection) was also on the list and I’m sure that will turn into some fall fun for the whole family.
Thanks so much for the recommendations - and please let us know if you go! It is the perfect way to spend any weather-friendly weekend.
