Easy Seaport Itinerary - Your Checklist with Kids

The holiday season is upon us, and there's no better place to get into the spirit than in downtown Boston! From the twinkling lights to festive events, Boston offers a wealth of family-friendly activities that will have you and your little ones in the holiday mood in no time. Whether you’re looking to catch a new holiday movie, play pirate on the high seas, or enjoy some seasonal shopping with a side of delicious treats, Boston has something for everyone. Here’s a guide to making the most of your family’s holiday adventure in the city!

1. Catch a Movie at a Fun, Kid-Friendly Theater

Boston has some fantastic theaters that go all out for the holiday season, and there’s no better way to kick off your festivities than with a snuggled up afternoon in a recliner (with heated seats!) and lunch delivered to your seat - and a holiday-themed menu - at The Alamo Theater in the Seaport.  We lovedcoming here and it was so kid-friendly and easy to pop in, find your seats, order immediately and keep the kids content.  We can’t wait to go back!

2. Play Pirate at the Boston Children's Playground

After the movie, head over to one of the most unique playgrounds in the city – the Martin’s Park in the Seaport. We have long been trying to make our way here and it certainly didn’t disappoint.  This playground is in honor of Martin Richard, who sadly lost his life in the Boston Marathon Bombings.  What a beautiful way to carry on his legacy.

This incredible play area offers everything from a massive swing set to a giant pirate ship perfect for little adventurers to practice their swashbuckling skills. Kids can pretend to spy enemy ships out in Boston Harbor, or they can steer the ship through imaginary seas. The playground is a dream for families with kids of all ages with swings, climbing structures, slides, musical instruments and the holiday season makes it even more special with festive decorations around the park - they just had their annual ship lighting this weekend. Plus, the playground’s waterfront location offers stunning views of the city’s skyline – perfect for a few family photos!

3. Visit the Annual Snowport in the Seaport

If you're looking for even more holiday magic, make sure to check out Snowport in the Seaport District. This annual holiday event turns the Seaport into a winter wonderland filled with seasonal delights. Kids and families can enjoy a variety of activities from snapping a photo with Santa to visiting Betty the Yeti, a fun, giant snow creature who’s a hit with little ones.

Aside from the fun activities, Snowport also boasts a fantastic lineup of food vendors. Warm up with a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of hot cocoa with all the fixings—whipped cream, marshmallows, and maybe even a little peppermint. It’s the perfect treat to enjoy while you stroll around the Seaport, soaking in the holiday sights and sounds.

*Note - if heading over on the weekend, be prepared to wait in line. There are 2 entrances so check both!  Check their site for event schedule  and market map!

4. Holiday Shopping with a Side of Fun

Snowport is also a great place to check off your holiday shopping list. The event features a cozy holiday market with a mix of local artisans, seasonal pop-up shops, and specialty food vendors. You can grab unique gifts, find stocking stuffers, and even pick up some special treats for yourself while the kids are busy with holiday activities.

Our MUST visit shops:

  • Drift Collective
  • Joy Street
  • Maddie & Connor
  • Lizzie’s Bakery
  • Don’t miss the infamous - Lobster Nativity Scene
  • Simply Placed
  • More than Words

With so many options in one place, Snowport makes holiday shopping a stress-free and fun experience for the whole family. Plus, you can enjoy the festive atmosphere, complete with music, lights, and seasonal décor.
