DIY First Day Photo Shoot - Pool Noodle Pencil

DIY First Day Photo Shoot - Pool Noodle Pencil

That first day of school photo is always a last minute - don’t forget! - moment for our family.  The smiles are sometimes forced or full of nerves as we race off to not be late for the first day of

Last year we added a fun twist with the pool noodle pencil.  It is cute and fun and helps ease a little of the pre-first day jitters!

Materials needed:

  • yellow pool noodle
  • knife
  • scissors
  • construction paper (light pink/beige/light brown, red, white or silver/grey)
  • black marker
  • varsity letter patches
  • tape
  • e6000 glue (optional) for varsity letters

Here is our step-by-step:

  1. Cut your pool noodle to the appropriate shape for your child to hold/the letters or numbers you want placed alongside
  2. Cut the construction paper you need for the red (eraser) and silver/grey (metal under eraser) and light pink or beige (pencil tip)
  3. Tape the construction strips on to the top of the noodle
  4. Carefully wrap the brown/light pink (pencil tip) around in a cone shape to fit the other end of your pool noodle pencil
  5. Tape that on and scribble black marker to the tip
  6. Add your varsity letter patches (I used tape to be able to easily remove and change the letters for the following year/other kids) but you can also use E6000 if you need it to be more durable/permanent
  7. say “CHEESE!”

HAPPY FIRST DAY!!!
