Boston’s Museum of Ice Cream (MOIC) opened its doors with an extra sprinkle of excitement this winter, and I had the chance to get an exclusive sneak peek before the grand opening. From quirky installations to deliciously unique flavors, it was an experience full of fun for the whole family, and I couldn’t wait to share all the sweet details! I brought Tenley for a special “girls date night” and it did not disappoint.
A Flavorful Twist: Lobster Roll Ice Cream?
As a lifelong New Englander, I’ve had my fair share of lobster rolls. But when I heard that the Museum of Ice Cream was putting its own spin on this beloved dish with lobster roll ice cream — I had to check it out. I chickened out so I haven’t tried it yet… but I feel like I missed out so I HAVE to go back.
Fenway Park Gets a Sweet Makeover with FUNway Park Experience
Of course, no visit to Boston would be complete without a nod to Fenway Park, so it wasn’t a surprise when the Museum of Ice Cream added its own sweet twist on this local landmark. The whole setup was designed to channel the energy and joy of a ballpark, but instead of peanuts and Cracker Jack, we had popcorn flavored cotton candy and all kinds of carnival games. Just pick a ball from the giant gumball machine and shoot your shot! This room in particular makes the MOIC Boston experience one of a kind.
Taste Testing Galore: Ice Cream, Sweets & More
Walking through the museum felt like strolling through an ice cream lover’s dream. From interactive rooms, trivia games, hidden rooms, the unexpected snowfall, and so much more, we saw it all.
Each room offered a unique experience for the taste buds. There were classic treats like chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches, but also adventurous options like cotton candy, the lobster roll and creamsicles which I know Tenley hadn’t tried before. All of the treats kept us fueled throughout the entire visit.
VIP Access: Preview Event
One of the best parts of the preview event? We got to hang out with other local friends who were just as excited about the ice cream wonderland as we were. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and it felt like a special moment to connect with others who shared our love for all things sweet and playful. I was excited to finally meet Sarah Dussault (@sarahfit) in person after feeling like I’ve known her on instagram for years. She is also our Faster Way coach and a Buggy Box Co. supporter.
The VIP experience included exclusive access to Honestly just being there before the grand opening was amazing — and it only added to the excitement of being there before the public crowds arrived.
A Sweet Family Adventure
Tenley and I absolutely loved the hands-on elements of the Museum of Ice Cream. We BOTH took the slide down to the first floor and got to jump into the Sprinkle Pool, Tenley’s favorite party. Every corner of the museum was designed to engage imaginations for both kids and grown ups alike. There was something magical about walking through rooms that felt like they were straight out of a childhood fantasy, with every detail designed to make you smile, like being in Willy Wonka’s factory.
A Sweet Future for Boston
The Museum of Ice Cream is going to be a game-changer for Boston. It’s the kind of place where you can have an unforgettable family outing, indulge your sweet tooth, and experience art and food in a way that’s both playful and immersive. Whether you're a local or visiting the city, it’s a must-see attraction for anyone looking to add a little more sweetness to their day. The FUNway Park experience and the Lobster Roll ice cream in particular make the Boston location of the MOIC stand out from the rest.
We were fortunate to experience the museum before it officially opened, and I know it’s going to be a hit with everyone who walks through its doors. From the lobster roll ice cream to the playful Fenway Park-inspired installations, there’s something for everyone — and trust me, you’ll want to take a million photos along the way.
So next time you’re in Boston, don’t miss the chance to step into a world of fun and flavors at the Museum of Ice Cream. It’s more than just a museum — it’s a full-on sensory experience that will leave you smiling long after you walk out the door. Tenley felt like a princess the whole time and was gifted a goody bag on the way out. She also chose Piñata Llama from the shop. She has been sleeping with it every night since. Thank you so much to Leah (@leahboston) for inviting us and giving us a special night out together.
On our way home Tenley told me that when she gets her driver’s license, (keep in mind she is 6 years old), that she is going to go there every day after school. That is a 5 Star Review if I’ve ever heard one! :)
